Gulf Rubber mould a range of componentry in engineering plastics primarily for use in dual material components where elastomers or thermoplastics rubber(TPR’s) are over moulded onto an engineering thermoplastic part to form a composite component.
By using a combination of rigid and flexible materials bonded together in the moulding process single components can be produced that replace. This can provide cost and/or performance advantages.
For the engineering thermoplastics one of the main considerations is the ability of the material to handle the moulding temperature for the flexible overmoulding material. In the case of an elastomer this is typically 160-180C so the selection of an engineering thermoplastic requires that the material retain sufficient stiffness at these elevated temperatures to maintain its dimensional integrity.
After this the properties of the material that best suit the end use application and cost considerations will be the selection criteria.
